HC Deb 16 June 1955 vol 542 c752
44. Mr. Hurd

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress is being made in establishing rabbit clearance areas; and if he will list the counties where effective arrangements have already been made.

Mr. Amory

Fourteen Orders have so far been made designating rabbit clearance areas totalling some 430,000 acres in 8 counties, namely: Anglesey, Bedfordshire, Cheshire, Essex, Norfolk, Northumberland, Shropshire and Worcestershire. Twenty-eight notices of proposal to make an order have also been published affecting a further 848,000 acres in 17 other counties and an additional 273,000 acres in Norfolk.

Mr. Hurd

Can my right hon. Friend foresee that in the next few months every county will have rabbit clearance orders in operation in suitable parts?

Mr. Amory

Every county, I know, has this matter under consideration at present, and I am really quite encouraged by the progress made in the past few months.
