HC Deb 13 June 1955 vol 542 c254
21. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement on the international situation in the Far East, with particular relation to Formosa, in view of the threat to world peace.

Mr. H. Macmillan

I shall be speaking on the situation in regard to Formosa in the course of my speech on Wednesday, and I should prefer, with the hon. and learned Gentleman's permission, not to anticipate that statement now.

Mr. Hughes

Will the Minister at least give an assurance that Britain will be in no way committed without full debate in this House?

Mr. Macmillan

That was fully stated by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on 28th April.
