§ 70. Mr. Doddsasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what action the Herring Industry Board is taking to provide the public with herrings free from bones and so increase the demand and consumption of this type of fish.
§ The Joint Under-Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. J. Henderson Stewart)The Board has commissioned a manufacturer to design a filleting machine capable of removing all the bones from raw fresh herring. They have also conducted experiments in producing packaged quick-frozen herring of which the bones have been softened by pressure cooking.
