§ 18. Mr. Gowerasked the Minister of Labour if he will make a statement upon the levels of employment and unemployment in Wales; and what is his estimate of prospects during the next 12 months.
§ Sir W. MoncktonIt is estimated that the number in civil employment in Wales in June, 1955, was approximately 910,000. On 13th June, 1955, the number unemployed was just under 15,000, representing 1.6 per cent. of the total number of employees. This is the lowest figure since the end of the war, and I have every hope that the employment situation in Wales will continue to improve.
§ Mr. W. R. WilliamsWhat are the levels, respectively, for Caernarvonshire and Anglesey? How do they compare with the national Welsh level?
§ Sir W. MoncktonI will gladly answer that Question on notice.
