§ 54. Mr. Warbeyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is yet in a position to state the Government's policy towards the proposals submitted to the Disarmament Sub-Committee, including the Soviet statement of 11th May made to the Sub-Committee.
§ Mr. NuttingAs I indicated on 13th June, when I welcomed the new Soviet proposal of 10th May as an important step forward, the Western Governments are studying that proposal in detail.
§ Mr. WarbeyAs the right hon. Gentleman is in a mood to refute false Press reports, will he give us a categorical denial of the suggestion made in some sections of the Press that, now that there is a distinct prospect of agreement on disarmament being reached, the Government have revised their policy and no longer believe in either the possibility or the desirability of nuclear disarmament?
§ Mr. NuttingI have seen nothing to suggest that, and I am happy to be able to assure the hon. Gentleman and this House that our policy remains, as always, to try to work for a comprehensive, general and internationally-supervised disarmament agreement.
