§ 52. Mr. L. M. Leverasked the President of the Board of Trade the policy of the Government in relation to the Report of the Monopolies and Restrictive Practices Commission on the Process of Calico Printing.
§ Mr. KaberryWe accept the conclusions of the Monopolies Commission that the practices described operate, and may be expected to operate, against public interest, and we were in general agreement with the Commission's recommendations. Discussions with the calico printing industry concerning detailed implementation of the Report are still in progress.
§ Mr. LeverWill the President of the Board of Trade bear in mind the anxiety of the workers in the calico printing industry, and will he take steps, when considering the proposals, to see that their position is safeguarded?
§ Mr. KaberryThat will be considered, but I prefer not to anticipate any further statement.
