asked the Assistant Postmaster-General when Dagenham is to be separated from the Romford postal area and made an independent district.

Mr. Gammans

It is not intended to divide the Romford and Dagenham postal area. To do so would increase the cost of providing the postal services without improving them.

Mr. Parker

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that parcels have to go to Romford and then out again, so that there is a considerable delay in the service to the public?

Mr. Gammans

There would be no additional speed if we did what the hon. Gentleman suggests.
