HC Deb 28 February 1955 vol 537 c1697
12. Mr. Page

asked the Minister of Health what steps he is taking to stem the decline in recruitment of dentists for the National Health Service.

The Minister of Health (Mr. Iain Macleod)

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Wythenshawe (Mrs. Hill) on 6th December. I am not yet quite ready to announce the full membership of the Committee, but Sir Arnold McNair has consented to act as Chairman.

Mr. Page

Will my right hon. Friend give further consideration to the question whether there is adequate assistance to dental students in the purchase of dental equipment? Do I understand that it costs£125 and that this might be a deterrent to the starting of studies?

Mr. Macleod

If it is a deterrent in the way my hon. Friend suggests, it would certainly come within the terms of reference.
