§ 47. Mr. W. Stewardasked the Prime Minister whether he will make a statement on the steps to be taken by the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth Governments, financially and technically, to ensure the success of the proposed Antarctic expedition.
§ The Prime MinisterYes, Sir. Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom are prepared to make a grant of £100,000 towards the cost of the proposed trans-Antarctic expedition and there may be other ways in which Departments of Government can help. The Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand and the Deputy Prime Minister of South Africa are likely to bring the project to the notice of their Governments.
