HC Deb 09 February 1955 vol 536 c1897
62. Mrs. White

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will now announce his decision on the temporary road bridge at Queensferry, Flintshire.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

In view of the high cost involved, I regret that I am unable to approve the construction of a temporary bridge which will cease to be necessary when the by-pass is constructed.

Mrs. White

If the Minister cannot approve this scheme, can he not put forward an alternative proposal for what is a serious traffic bottleneck, as his predecessor undoubtedly recognised?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I am perfectly prepared to consider any suggestion that the local highway authority makes. I appreciate the point made by the hon. Lady, but the sum of £100,000 which would be involved for a temporary bridge, which would become unnecessary in a few years' time, would not be a reasonable proposition.
