HC Deb 09 February 1955 vol 536 cc1898-9
41. Lady Tweedsmuir

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he will make a statement on the modernisation and equipment of British Railways in Scotland.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I have nothing to add at present to what I said on this subject in the course of the debates on 3rd February and yesterday.

Lady Tweedsmuir

Will the Minister be in a position shortly to announce the modernisation and equipment for Scotland separately, and also the proportion to be spent in relation to that in England and Wales?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

No, Sir; the scheme is best taken as a whole, but the noble Lady will appreciate that I referred at some length yesterday to the discussions taking place in connection with the proposed electrification of the Glasgow suburban service, which is a very large scheme.
