asked the Prime Minister how the publication of the Official History of the 1939–45 war is proceeding; how many volumes have been published to date, and how many are in active preparation; and when it is expected to publish Volume V of the Military History (General Volumes) dealing with events of May-June, 1945.

The Prime Minister

The military series of Official Histories is designed to comprise 32 volumes. Four volumes have been published and one is in the press Seventeen are in active preparation, and eight of these, including the volume mentioned, are expected to go to press during the next 12 months and to be published next year.

In the civil series, on which work started earlier, 12 volumes out of a total of 29 have been published; seven are in the press and should be published this year; and five are expected to go to press during the next 12 months. The remainder are in preparation.

Can the Prime Minister give an assurance that the publication of Volume V is no being held up pending the discovery of his telegram to Field Marshal Montgomery?
