HC Deb 08 February 1955 vol 536 c1710
3. Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Works what action he proposes to take to implement recommendations in the Report of the Committee on Litter in the Royal Parks.

Mr. Birch

As I stated in reply to the. hon. Member on 25th January, I am in general agreement with the recommendations and I intend to act on them. Tests, however, with a prototype litter bin constructed in accordance with the specifications in the Report show that it is too big for general use. I am, therefore, also going to try out a smaller bin of the same design which will be easier for one man to handle.

Mr. Dodds

While appreciating that the Minister says that he will carry out the recommendations, may I ask him whether he can give an assurance that he will employ some imagination in getting over these recommendations to the public so that they will be made aware of this great effort, which should extend to all parts of the country?

Mr. Birch

When the hon. Gentleman says "getting over the recommendations," I suppose he means publicising them, and not evading them. I think it is an imaginative Report, I am in agreement with it, and I shall do my best.
