HC Deb 08 February 1955 vol 536 c1723
27. Mr. Dodds

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will give a progress report in respect of the experimental helicopter unit.

Mr. Head

The unit will be formed at the beginning of April, and the first helicopters will be delivered in advance of that date.

Mr. Dodds

I appreciate that some progress has been made but does not the right hon. Gentleman think that, as head of the Army, he is waiting a long time for helicopters? They have been in existence for a long time and the American Army had them years ago.

Mr. Head

No one is keener on helicopters than I am, and I will continue to do everything possible to get them in the Army in large numbers as quickly as possible.
