§ 57. Mr. Lagdenasked the Secretary of State for War if he will make it possible for dogs, the property of British troops soon returning home from Egypt under the agreement to give up the Canal Zone, to be conveyed in troopships with their owners.
§ Mr. LagdenWill the Secretary of State further consider this matter, in view of the fact that it will mean abandoning or destroying these pets? Will he also bear in mind that like facilities are being granted to the personnel of the American forces from nearby Libya?
§ Mr. HeadI am very fond of dogs myself, but I can assure my hon. Friend that very large numbers of dogs are accumulated by the troops, and I really think that to bring all these dogs back from the Middle East would be a very big commitment.
