HC Deb 12 December 1955 vol 547 cc812-3
28. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether Her Majesty's Government will rejoin the International Wheat Agreement.

Mr. Amory

No decision has yet been reached on this matter.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

Would the Minister bear in mind that we are the largest single importer of wheat in the world, and that it would be to the definite advantage of this country to be a party to this agreement and thus ensure continuity of supplies and stability of prices, and that we should not have left this agreement a year or two ago?

Mr. Amory

The hon. and gallant Gentleman is rather beating the gun. We have no agreement before us for consideration yet.
