HC Deb 07 December 1955 vol 547 c377
39. Mr. S. O. Davies

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many persons arrested are still in jail in Cyprus without trial under the Detention of Persons Law of 16th July, 1955.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

My latest information is that on 5th December 135 persons were in detention.

Mr. Davies

Will the right hon. Gentleman please answer my Question in full? I asked how many persons who have not been tried at all were being detained in the prisons of Cyprus.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I have answered the hon. Gentleman's Question, and I have given the number detained. They are not in gaol; they are in detention camps and they have considerable privileges there.
