The Prime Minister (Sir Anthony Eden)

I will, with permission, inform the House of an announcement which is being made in similar terms in Washington this afternoon: The President of the United States has invited the Prime Minister to spend a few days as his guest in Washington at the end of January. This invitation has been cordially accepted. The Foreign Secretary will accompany the Prime Minister and they will arrive in Washington on the 30th of January. I should like also to inform the House that at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Canada my right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary and I will visit Ottawa at the end of our visit to Washington.

The House welcomes this announcement, and I am sure I shall express the views of all of us when I say that we are very glad that the health of the President of the United States has so improved that he is able to receive distinguished visitors from overseas.
