HC Deb 28 April 1955 vol 540 c1061
44. Mr. Donnelly

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make a statement about the current position regarding coracle fishing on the River Teifi between Llechryd Bridge and Cenarth Falls.

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Mr. G. R. H. Nugent)

Coracle netting in this part of the river is prohibited except by persons who held licences in both of the years 1931 and 1932. Discussion with all interested parties has failed to find an acceptable means of lifting this restriction.

Mr. Donnelly

Is the Joint Parliamentary Secretary in favour of lifting the restriction? Is he prepared to commit himself to that? If so, is he saying that there are no administrative means by which this object can be achieved?

Mr. Nugent

I am telling the House that after investigating every aspect of the problem we have not been able to find any means of lifting the restriction.
