HC Deb 28 April 1955 vol 540 cc1051-2
20. Mr. H. Wilson

asked the Minister of Education why his Department instructed the Lancashire County Council that it could not accept on a 50 per cent. grant basis the church hall in Huyton, details of which are in his possession, for use as a school hall and dining room.

Sir D. Eccles

As the reply is extremely complex, I am writing to the right hon. Gentleman.

Mr. Wilson

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this hall is structurally sound, but if it were pulled down and a new one built on the site a grant would be automatically forthcoming? Since, presumably, the right hon. Gentleman does not want that to happen, will he have a look at this matter again and receive representations about it?

Sir D. Eccles

I am looking at the matter and will write to the right hon. Gentleman, but it is one of the most tangled legal questions with which I have had to deal.
