asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air how many hourly-rated skilled aircraft mechanics are employed by his Department in the United Kingdom.

Surely there are a large number of hourly-rated skilled aircraft mechanics employed by my hon. Friend's Department? In his last reply to me when I asked a similar question on 23rd March, did not my hon. Friend cover these people?

No, Sir. All skilled engineering craftsmen employed by the Air Ministry as civilians are paid at weekly rates. There is no Air Ministry grade of aircraft mechanic.
