HC Deb 26 April 1955 vol 540 cc752-3
41. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking to investigate and resolve the complaints made by a prisoner in Peterhead Prison, Aberdeenshire, and contained in the letter sent to him by the hon. and learned Member for Aberdeen, North.

The Joint Under-Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. Henderson Stewart)

My right hon. Friend has received a full report on the complaints sent to him by the hon. and learned Member and has replied to his letter. My right hon. Friend does not consider that any further action is necessary.

Mr. Hughes

While thanking the Under-Secretary of State for that reply and for his letter, may I ask whether the particular prisoner was given an opportunity of seeing the visiting committee and elaborating his complaints, as that does not appear from either the present Answer or the letter?

Mr. Henderson Stewart

I will let the hon. and learned Member know.
