HC Deb 25 April 1955 vol 540 c714

(Changed from PUBLIC SERVICE VEHICLES (CONTRACT CARRIAGES AND SPECIAL TRAVEL FACILITIES) BILL)

8.35 p.m.

The Lord Privy Seal (Mr. Harry Crook-shank)

I beg to move, That the Order [15th March], That the Bill, as amended (in the Standing Committee), be considered upon Friday, 13th May, be read and discharged; that, notwithstanding the practice of the House which forbids the bringing forward of an Order of the Day, the said day having been appointed before the intention to prorogue Parliament had been announced, the Bill, as amended (in the Standing Committee), be considered Tomorrow. This is a procedural Motion which is necessary in order that the House can take the further stages of the Bill in which the right hon. Gentleman the Member for South Shields (Mr. Ede) showed interest the other day. It is necessary to lose no time with the Bill now, so that it can get to another place, and if this Motion is agreed we will take the Report and Third Reading of the Bill tomorrow, after Government business.

8.36 p.m.

Mr. Ede (South Shields)

I should like to congratulate the right hon. Gentleman on the partial recovery of his voice. We hope that he will soon get it back completely, so that he can appeal to us in a rather less husky Talullah Bankhead manner than he has done this afternoon, and address us in his usual light and airy way. I thank him for putting the Motion on the Order Paper. We trust that the House will carry it, and that there will be no difficulty in getting the Report and Third Reading stages of the Bill tomorrow evening.

Question put and agreed to.
