2. Mr. H. Wilsonasked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the growing number of workers in Huyton, Prescot, and surrounding areas, who, having been refused unemployability allowances by the Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance on the ground that they are fit for work, have been told by his Department's local offices that no such work is available for them in the area; and what steps he proposes to take in the matter.
§ Sir W. MoncktonNo, Sir. I am writing to the right hon. Member about a case to which he has drawn my attention.
Mr. WilsonIs not the right hon. and learned Gentleman aware that there are many of these cases, not only in my constituency but probably all over the country? Will he take steps in the regions to make arrangements with the officers of the Departments to get together so that, on the one hand, a man is not refused a supplement and, on the other, then told by the Ministry of Labour that there is no work for him?
§ Sir W. MoncktonI have made inquiries, and so far I can find no other case. If other cases are brought to my attention, I will certainly look into the matter again.
