HC Deb 06 April 1955 vol 539 cc1147-8
32. Mr. Swingler

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what progress has been made in the negotiations, in which representatives of his Department have participated, about the future repair and maintenance of the road between Silverdale and Crackley Gates in Newcastle-under-Lyme, which was last repaired at Government expense 12 years ago.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I understand that the Borough Council of Newcastle-under-Lyme has decided to carry out the necessary work on this road, and that on completion it and the county council are prepared to adopt it as a public highway.

Mr. Swingler

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this will be very welcome news to many of my constituents, who have suffered for so long from the appalling state of this private road?
