HC Deb 06 April 1955 vol 539 c1148
2. Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what progress has been made in the consideration given to the provision of a helidrome built on pontoons on the Thames opposite Battersea Park as a helicopter station.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

A survey for a suitable site for a helicopter station to serve commercial transport helicopter operations in London is still in progress. Many factors have to be considered, particularly cost, the effect of noise, and forecasts of future helicopter performance. The comparative advantages of several possible sites are under consideration and a final selection has not yet been made.

Mr. Dodds

While thanking the Minister for his reply, may I ask whether consideration is being given to the building of a helidrome on the river opposite Battersea Park, as is asked in the Question?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The site to which the hon. Gentleman refers—though I hope he will not compel me to use the word "helidrome"—is one of those under consideration.
