§ 52. Mr. M. Stewartasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will appoint a committee to inquire into the conditions of coloured persons in Great Britain.
§ The Secretary of State for the Colonies (Mr. Alan Lennox-Boyd)I am as yet unable to add to the replies I gave to the hon. Member's Questions on the same subject on 3rd November and 8th December.
§ Mr. StewartWhy does it take so long only to decide whether to set up a committee or not?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe setting up of the committee would raise a good deal of conjecture. Meanwhile, a large number of British subjects who are coming to this country are, on the whole, settling down pretty well.
§ Mr. StewartIs the right hon. Gentleman willing to consider the possibility of setting up a committee?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydIt is certainly not ruled out.
