§ 3. Sir R. Boothbyasked the Secretary of State for Scotland to give an assurance that every effort is being made to complete the construction of the Government fish meal and oil factory at Peterhead in time for the summer fishing next year.
§ Sir R. BoothbyThank you very much.
§ 13. Mr. John MacLeodasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will make a statement on the proposed fish meal factory at Avoch.
§ Mr. Henderson StewartThe Herring Industry Board has asked for a grant of £69,000 to meet the cost of this factory, and the County Council of Ross and Cromarty has applied for a grant towards the cost, estimated at £50,000, of a new pier to serve the factory. Both applications are under consideration.
§ Mr. MacLeodCan the Minister confirm that it is not necessary to have the pier before the factory is built?
§ Mr. StewartI think I should have notice of that rather technical question. The proposition as it stands requires both the pier and the factory, and applications for both are under active consideration.
§ Mr. MacLeodIf the pier should not be forthcoming in the immediate future, can my hon. Friend confirm that it will not hinder the building of the factory?
