HC Deb 18 November 1954 vol 533 cc555-6
35. Mr. K. Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if be has yet reached a decision on the need for legislation to amend the law of obscene libel.

Major Lloyd-George

In consultation with some of my right hon. Friends, I am examining the law relating to obscene publications, and I will make a statement when we have completed that examination.

Mr. Robinson

In the meantime, will the right hon. and gallant Gentleman give assurances that this campaign, which I fully support, against horror comics will not be allowed to obscure the need for clarification and, indeed, liberalisation of the present law of obscenity relating to adults?

Major Lloyd-George

I cannot comment on the actual law, but I can assure the hon. Member that the one matter will not interfere with the other.
