HC Deb 17 November 1954 vol 533 cc366-7
17. Mr. Rankin

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he can now say when a date for commencing work on the Whiteinch Tunnel will be fixed.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Not yet, Sir. It has been necessary to obtain from the corporation of Glasgow and to examine further detailed information about this scheme, and the corporation has now been invited to send representatives to discuss certain points with my Department.

Mr. Rankin

Has the right hon. Gentleman received any further information from the corporation on the revised plans and specifications?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

It was in the light of the further information which the city corporation was good enough to send me that I felt that further discussions with my officials to clear up certain outstanding points was the quicker way to settle the matter.

Mr. Rankin

If I put on the Order Paper another Question at the end of the month, will the right hon. Gentleman be able to tell me when the tunnel will be started?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

That is a hypothetical question.
