HC Deb 17 November 1954 vol 533 cc361-2
6. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will give details of his announced present plans to construct a great trunk road from London to the north-east of Scotland; and by what means the road is to be carried over the rivers Forth and Tay.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The hon. and learned Member is misinformed. I have announced no such plans. The second part of the Question does not, therefore, arise.

Mr. Hughes

Is the Minister aware that he is widely credited in the Scottish newspapers with these benevolent intentions? Does he realise that such a road is urgently necessary, and will he deal with the problems of the Tay and the Forth when dealing with the roads?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I am glad to know that the Scottish Press is so kind to me.
