§ 15. Mr. Langford-Holtasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he is aware that the islands at the junction of Hertford Street, Park Lane and Hamilton Place, W.1, are so sited as to cause difficulties to private cars, omnibuses and pedestrians; and whether he will have these islands re-designed to enable traffic conveniently to proceed from Park Lane to Lower Park Lane.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThe present layout which was tested on a temporary basis has, I understand, produced some improvement in traffic conditions at this difficult spot.
§ Mr. Langford-HoltIs my right hon. Friend aware that this island as at present constructed forces the bus stop into the middle of Park Lane and provides a carriage road behind the island, which bus passengers have to cross? Is he also aware that any traffic going down Lower Park Lane has to do two big right-angle turns, which very large vehicles cannot do?
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThis layout is thought by the traffic authorities concerned to have effected an improvement.
§ Mr. Langford-HoltWill my right hon. Friend accept an invitation from me to go round the island in a car, so that he may see the difficulties?
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterYes, Sir, but not more than once.
