HC Deb 16 November 1954 vol 533 c218
50. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Prime Minister whether he will press for an earlier meeting than next summer of the proposed international conference of scientists on atomic energy.

The Prime Minister

I am assured that preparations for the conference cannot be completed satisfactorily before July of next year.

Mr. Sorensen

Does the Prime Minister appreciate that, in view of the public desire for factual information as to the after-effects of nuclear explosion, it is desirable to get some information long before the meeting next summer and cannot he expedite it on that consideration?

The Prime Minister

We are doing all we can to accelerate the discussion, but various authorities have to be consulted. They are pressing on, I think, but it is astonishing what a lot of talk there is about all these matters once we enter upon them.
