HC Deb 16 November 1954 vol 533 c205
26. Mr. Roy Jenkins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can give any information about current rates of investment in plant and machinery in industry.

Mr. R. A. Butler

There was a small increase in investment by industry in plant and machinery as measured by the rate of deliveries in the first half of this year. New orders for plant and machinery have continued to increase, and are considerably greater in the first half of the year than in the comparable period last year. Such later information as is available suggests that this trend is being well maintained.
