HC Deb 09 November 1954 vol 532 c1019
16. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for War what improvements are contemplated in the pay of Territorial Army officers, whether by way of bounty or otherwise.

Mr. Head

I have the conditions of service of the Territorial Army very much in mind but I have no statement to make on these particular matters.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

Would not a tax-free bounty, like that given to other ranks, be not only an encouragement to existing officers, who are normally out of pocket on present rates of pay, but also an inducement to National Service officers finishing their three-and-a-half years' part-time training to carry on thereafter as volunteer Territorial Army officers?

Mr. Head

I have the matters which the hon. and gallant Gentleman has raised very much in mind.
