HC Deb 08 November 1954 vol 532 cc848-9
27. Captain Pilkington

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what are the coal reserves for the coming winter.

The Minister of Fuel and Power (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

On 30th October distributed stocks were 17.4 million tons.

Captain Pilkington

How does that compare with last year's figure?

Mr. Lloyd

It is 800,000 tons lower than last year. We have to remember that there will be a much higher rate of import during the forthcoming winter.

Mr. Woodburn

Will it be necessary, with these supplies, to stagger industry in Scotland and elsewhere during the coming winter?

Mr. Lloyd

I sincerely hope not.
