§ 39. Mr. G. Jegerasked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware of the damage caused to crops by flooding; and whether he will take action to see that the smaller drainage boards operate efficiently and keep their sluices clear.
Mr. AmoryI have no jurisdiction in cases where it appears that drainage boards are neglecting their functions under the Land Drainage Act, but river boards have certain powers. If the hon. Member has any particular area in mind where crops have been damaged as a result of neglect by a drainage board and will let me have details, I shall be very ready to look into the matter and, if necessary, bring it to the attention of the river board concerned.
§ Mr. C. HughesDoes not the Minister agree that the solution to this problem lies in the implementation of the recommendations of the Heneage Committee, and can he say when those recommendations are likely to be implemented?
Mr. AmoryThat matter is under consideration by the Government at the present time, but I am not in a position to make a statement at the moment.
