HC Deb 02 November 1954 vol 532 c189
16. Mr. Swingler

asked the Secretary of State for War if he has considered the final report of the Select Committee on the Army Act; and whether he will introduce legislation to implement the Committee's recommendations.

The Secretary of State for War (Mr. Antony Head)

Yes, Sir. The final report of the Select Committee on the Army Act and Air Force Act is a most valuable document and I have already conveyed my sincere thanks to the Chairman and Members of the Committee. The Government intend to bring forward legislation in the near future.

Mr. Swingler

While I am sure that the House would wish to express its gratitude to the Committee which have worked so arduously, can we be assured by the Minister that, in view of the Government's obvious shortage of legislation for the next Session, plenty of Parliamentary time will be given to consider this very valuable set of recommendations?

Mr. Head

The Bill will be brought before Parliament and discussed. The time taken is a matter for hon. Members and for the Leader of the House, and not for me.
