§ 4. Mr. Gowerasked the Minister of Education how many science graduates entered the teaching profession during 1953; and what were the comparable figures during 1948 and 1938, respectively.
§ Miss HorsbrughThis information is not available, but I can tell my hon. Friend that 671 graduates with degrees in mathematics and science completed their professional training as teachers in 1953, compared with 522 in 1938, and that the number of teachers in maintained schools who were known to hold degrees in mathematics and science increased by about 350 in the year ending 31st March, 1953.
§ Mr. GowerIn thanking my right hon. Friend for that reply, may I ask whether she has any information whether these people who enter teaching remain permanently or stay only for a short time?
§ Miss HorsbrughIf my hon. Friend wants to know the exact time they have been in teaching, he had better put down a Question.
