§ 46. Mr. E. Fletcherasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what will be the contribution of the Federal German Republic after 1st June to the occupation costs of the British troops in Germany.
§ Mr. Dodds-ParkerThe German Federal Government will provide occupation costs in June at the current rate of DM.600m. a month for all the occupying powers. The arrangements to be made for the period after 30th June are to be discussed shortly by the Allied High Commission with the Federal Government
§ Mr. FletcherMay we take it that there will be no reduction in the German contribution so long as the present arrangement exists in Germany?
§ Mr. Dodds-ParkerThis is a matter for discussion between the Allied High Commission and the German Federal Government. I have no reason to suppose that there will be any reduction.
§ Lieut.-Colonel LiptonIs the Minister aware that the occupation costs were originally fixed at 950 million marks a month, but that only 600 million marks a month have been paid since April, 1952?
§ Mr. Dodds-ParkerThat must mean that we are getting better value for our money.
