§ 21. Mr. Rankinasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what recent representations he has considered from local authorities in regard to the urgency of making a start on the Clyde Tunnel.
§ Mr. J. StuartNone, Sir.
§ Mr. RankinIn view of that, why was the Secretary of State able a fortnight ago to say that the Clyde Tunnel would be started "very shortly"?
§ Mr. StuartI trust that it will be. The Glasgow Corporation, as the highway authority, has been asked for a detailed estimate of the cost of the scheme, and I have no doubt that Glasgow will submit the estimate as soon as it is in a position to do so.
