HC Deb 25 May 1954 vol 528 c191
21. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what recent representations he has considered from local authorities in regard to the urgency of making a start on the Clyde Tunnel.

Mr. J. Stuart

None, Sir.

Mr. Rankin

In view of that, why was the Secretary of State able a fortnight ago to say that the Clyde Tunnel would be started "very shortly"?

Mr. Stuart

I trust that it will be. The Glasgow Corporation, as the highway authority, has been asked for a detailed estimate of the cost of the scheme, and I have no doubt that Glasgow will submit the estimate as soon as it is in a position to do so.
