HC Deb 24 May 1954 vol 528 cc2-3
5. Mr. Hastings

asked the Minister of Food what evidence he has as to how long evaporated milk can be stored without appreciable loss of vitamins or decrease of nutritional value.

Major Lloyd George

I understand that there is no loss of vitamin A or riboflavin in evaporated milk stored at room temperature; and, as judged by investigations on sweetened condensed milk, no change in the biological value of the proteins after one year, and only very slight changes after from two to five years.

Mr. Hastings

Does the right hon. and gallant Gentleman anticipate disposing of all his present stocks of dried milk before any appreciable deterioration takes place?

Major Lloyd George

I could not answer that question positively without notice, but I hope to be able to get rid of most of the stocks before that.
