§ 42. Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many ex-Indian Government servants have been taken into the employment of the Nigerian Government, either in the Civil Service or public corporations, respectively.
§ The Minister of State for Colonial Affairs (Mr. Henry Hopkinson)Forty-seven ex-Indian Government servants, including six ex-members of the regular Indian Armed Services, are employed by the Nigerian Government. None is employed by any public corporation in Nigeria.
§ Mr. JohnsonIs the Minister aware that numbers of ex-Indian civil servants have been appointed to senior posts on the Nigerian railways and it is alleged that many of them have not even the qualifications to be assistant locomotive superintendents? This is obviously causing dissatisfaction among English employees. Will he look into the matter, and can he give us more details?
§ Mr. HopkinsonTwenty-seven out of the total of 47 are employed by the Nigerian railways, but this is the first complaint that I have heard about their qualifications.
§ Mr. JohnsonBut will the right hon. Gentleman look into it?
§ Mr. Hopkinsonindicated assent.
