§ Mr. BennI beg to ask leave to present a Petition on behalf of 6,388 of Her Majesty's loyal subjects in and around the City of Bristol, including and on behalf of old-age pensioners. The grievance contained in the Petition is the policy of Her Majesty's Government, in that they have made no adequate provision for alleviating the distress suffered by the old-age pensioners, and that, on the other hand, they have given taxation reliefs to those whose needs are demon-strably less.
The Petition concludes:
Wherefore, your petitioners pray that Her Majesty's Government will take an early opportunity of reconsidering their policy so as to grant some aid and benefit to ease the heavy burden which now lies on those who have given a lifetime of service to the community, and your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.To lie upon the Table.
