HC Deb 02 March 1954 vol 524 cc999-1000
42. Dr. King

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the Income Tax payable by the Service man's widow with no dependants, whose pension and sole in come is £168 a year.

Mr. R. A. Butler

Five shillings per annum if she pays contributions under the National Insurance Acts; otherwise £1 6s. 8d.

Dr. King

Will the Chancellor of the Exchequer consider the possibility of exempting altogether small pensions of this character from Income Tax?

Mr. Butler

All these matters are always under consideration at this time of year.
