HC Deb 02 March 1954 vol 524 c993
26. Mr. Willey

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many people, men and women, respectively, were employed in the factories administered by the North-Eastern Trading Estates Limited on the latest available date.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

On 28th November, 1953, the latest date for which official figures are available, 18,819 men and boys, 25,273 women and girls, making a total of 44,092, were employed in these factories.

Mr. Willey

Is the right hon. Gentleman satisfied with the employment figure? Does he not think that a survey of these factories is required in order to encourage the tenants to increase the employment provided in them?

Mr. Thorneycroft

The total employment is 302 less than in August, 1953, but 1,000 more than in November, 1952.
