HC Deb 23 June 1954 vol 529 c397
11. Mr. George Craddock

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what sanctions against members of the Kikuyu tribe are to be applied in Kenya regarding the sale of crops sales through co-operative societies, and other means of securing payments for goods.

Mr. Lyttelton

Those Kikuyu who actively or passively support Mau Mau are not permitted to sell produce for cash outside the reserves. Measures to control sales through co-operative societies are also being considered.

Mr. Craddock

Is it not a fact that Mr. Michael Blundell, the Minister, said that sanctions are to be applied to prevent money being circulated which might reach Mau Mau?

Mr. Lyttelton

That is another question. This Question relates to the sale of produce and cattle outside the reserves. There is no limitation inside the reserves.
