48. Mrs. Whiteasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what decision has been reached concerning the future occupation of the Ithanga Hills in the Kenya Highlands.
§ Mr. LytteltonThe Ithanga Hills have not been the subject of any recent decision, but it is intended to set aside some 16,000 acres adjoining this area as a native reserve for the Kamba tribe.
Mrs. WhiteWhile we are very much gratified to know that the area concerned is being returned to the Kamba Tribe, may I ask the right hon. Gentleman to explain why it takes such a long time for the Highland Board to come to the conclusion that this land should be returned to that tribe?
§ Mr. LytteltonNo recent decision has been taken on the Ithanga Hills since the findings of the Highland Board were agreed to, though reluctantly, by Mr. Creech Jones.
