§ 43. Mr. J. Griffithsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what recommendations he has received from the Lloyd Committee on the problems of redundancy in the tinplate industry in West Wales; and what action the Government propose to take in the matter.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeAs I informed the House in the debate on Welsh Affairs on 2nd February last, the programme of road works in Wales which the Government have authorised is based on recommendations made by the Lloyd Committee I understand that the Committee will shortly be submitting to me further recommendations on matters which it has recently been considering. I will inform the House of any action which the Government may propose to take as a result of the Committee's advice.
§ Mr. GriffithsWhile welcoming the decision to build new roads which are required, may I ask whether the right hon. and learned Gentleman is aware of the growing uneasiness and concern about the fact that development is taking place all the time and that, so far, very few factories are there to provide employment?
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeThat is my constant concern. I share with the right hon. Member pleasure and relief in the absorption of redundancy which has taken place up to now, but I do not let that obscure the problem, which is very much in my mind.
