§ 19. Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is yet in a position to make a statement on the matters discussed and conclusions reached in his recent discussions in London with the Prime Minister of Malta.
§ The Secretary of State for the Colonies (Mr. Oliver Lyttelton)I have nothing to add to my reply to a Question on this subject by my hon. Friend the Member for Billericay (Mr. Braine) on 2nd June.
§ Mr. HughesDoes the Secretary of State realise that geography, strategy, traditions and war service place Malta in a quite special position to have its 1937 problems adequately attended to? Will he issue a White Paper dealing with these problems so that they can be discussed in this House?
§ Mr. LytteltonI think I am as aware of the geography, the strategy and all the rest of it as any Member in this House. As to the second part of the supplementary question, I am awaiting the reply from the Prime Minister on the proposals I discussed with him when he was in London.
